Weather is taking a turn amidst severe cold, problems will increase due to rain and snowfall, strong wind alert issued
IMD Weather Forecast: In many parts of the country, the weather seems to be changing once again amid severe cold. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), due to the active western disturbance, rain and snowfall may continue in the hilly areas of North India. Due to this effect, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain in some plain areas also.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning of strong winds during this period. Due to changed weather conditions, cold may increase further in many parts of North India. At the same time, another powerful western disturbance can affect north-west India between 26 and 28 January.
Rain and snowfall alert
According to IMD, there is a possibility of widespread rain or snowfall at many places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on January 23. On this day, there may be moderate to heavy rain in some areas of Punjab. There are chances of rain in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan also on January 23.
Light to moderate rain may occur in eastern Uttar Pradesh on January 23 and 24. On January 23, there is a possibility of strong winds and storms at the speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour along with lightning in Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Heavy rain and snowfall may occur at isolated places in Kashmir Valley, Himachal Pradesh and higher reaches of Uttarakhand. Apart from this, warning of thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 25 and 26 January and for Kerala and Mahe on 26 January.

Cold havoc in Kashmir, chances of snowfall
The Meteorological Department said that severe cold continued to prevail in Kashmir on Thursday. A drop in minimum temperatures was recorded in most areas and the temperature remained below freezing point throughout the valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday night, which was about one degree less than the day before. Sonamarg Valley was the coldest, where the minimum temperature was recorded at minus 6.1 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave continues in Punjab-Haryana also
Severe cold was witnessed in many parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday also. The minimum temperature was recorded at 3.3 degrees Celsius in Hoshiarpur. Cold wave conditions also prevailed in Amritsar, where the minimum temperature was 3.4 degrees Celsius, while in Bathinda it was recorded at five degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in Gurdaspur was also five degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 4.4 degrees Celsius in Haryana’s Karnal and 4.6 degrees Celsius in Hisar. The Meteorological Department estimates that the effect of cold will continue in the coming days and due to the effect of western disturbance, there may be light rain in some areas.
