Impact of Middle East crisis: 100 flights canceled at Delhi airport
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) is currently going through a big crisis. Due to the ongoing developments in the Middle East and airspace restrictions, at least 100 flights to and from here were canceled on March 1 (Sunday). Although many airlines had given this information in advance, still a large number of passengers were seen standing in long queues at the ticket counters in search of other routes.
According to airport officials, the canceled flights include 62 outgoing and 42 incoming flights. Along with international flights, many domestic flights have also been affected and hundreds of flights are getting delayed. Airport operator ‘DIAL’ has advised people to contact their airlines before leaving home.

Ordeal of stranded passengers
Many people were seen at Terminal-3 of the airport who looked quite upset due to the cancellation of flights. There were many people whose jobs would be greatly affected by this. Many people, like Ibrahim Khan going to Jeddah and Ashok Kumar going to Dubai, were worried that if they did not reach work on time, they might lose their jobs.
Saapke Nijhuis, a resident of Netherlands, had come to visit Jaipur with her friend, but due to the death of her friend’s mother, she had to return immediately, but due to the cancellation of flights, her difficulties increased a lot.
Harita Dave, who came from Canada, said that the airlines refused to provide hotels or accommodation facilities saying that this crisis was beyond their control.
waiting for hours for goods
With flights being cancelled, it has also become a big challenge for passengers to get their luggage back.
Many passengers reported that they had to wait for 7 to 8 hours to get back their checked luggage after connecting flights were cancelled. The luggage of some passengers was found missing from the conveyor belt, which further increased their concern.

What did the airports and airlines say?
Delhi Airport informed on social media that their teams are deployed to help the passengers but due to such circumstances it may take more time. At the same time, big airlines like Air India have said that they are trying their best to help the affected passengers in other ways or in rebooking.
