Impact of severe snow storm, Air India’s New York-Newark flights canceled on 23 February
Air India informed on Sunday that all its scheduled flights to and from New York and Newark, USA on February 23 have been cancelled. This decision of the airline has been taken in view of the warning of a powerful winter storm coming to the east coast of America.
Fear of strong winds and very low visibility
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy snowfall, strong winds and very low visibility in the region, which may have a widespread impact on air services. In the travel advisory issued by the airline, it has been said that during February 22 and 23, severe weather conditions may occur in New York, New Jersey and surrounding areas. This precautionary step has been taken in view of the possibility of snow accumulation on the runway, delay in flights and disruption in air traffic operations.
Air India clarified in its statement that the safety of passengers and crew is the top priority. Keeping this in mind, it has been decided to cancel all the flights of 23 February. The airline said that considering the uncertainty of the weather, it would not be appropriate to put passengers at risk, so services have already been suspended.
Special arrangements for affected passengers
Air India has made special arrangements for the passengers affected by the canceled flights. The company said that dedicated support teams have been deployed, which will provide re-booking, ticket change and other necessary assistance to the passengers. The process of accommodating passengers on alternative flights without additional charges has also been started.
On the other hand, American weather agencies have warned that due to this storm, operations at airports may be disrupted and many flights may be affected. Due to heavy snowfall, road and rail traffic is also expected to be affected.
Air India appeals to passengers
Air India has appealed to passengers traveling on the affected routes to check the latest status of their flights before leaving home. Also keep in touch with the customer care center of the airline for any update or assistance. Information is also being sent to passengers through email and SMS, so that they can make changes to their travel plans accordingly.
