Impeachment motion on CEC Gyanesh Kumar rejected, will remain in office

Election comission: The Chairman of Rajya Sabha has rejected the impeachment motion brought against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. After this decision, Gyanesh Kumar will now continue in his post and no legal action will be taken against him at present. The opposition had presented this proposal demanding his removal.

193 MPs had made allegations

193 MPs from opposition parties together presented this proposal on March 12. In this, a total of 7 serious allegations were made against Gyanesh Kumar. The allegations included issues like partisanship, discrimination, misconduct, irregularities in the electoral process and violation of voters’ rights.

The opposition had especially raised objections regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar and West Bengal. He said that due to this process, the names of many people were removed from the voter list, which affected their right to vote.
