Import of Russian wine in India increases, jumps up to four times in the first 10 months of 2025
Tezzbuzz Desk- An important report related to the liquor market in India has come out, in which a sharp increase in the import of Russian liquor has been recorded. Many foreign brands of liquor are already present in the country, but in recent months the import figures regarding Russian spirits have been quite shocking.
According to media reports, in the first 10 months of 2025, India has imported about 520 tonnes of spirit products (which includes vodka, gin, whiskey and liquor) from Russia. This figure is said to be almost three times more in terms of weight and almost four times more in terms of value as compared to the same period last year.
Citing data from the Federal Agricultural Export Development Center (Agroexport) attached to the Russian Agriculture Ministry, the Russian newspaper Vedomosti reported that India is now becoming an emerging and attractive market for Russian wine exporters.
According to the report, the total value of Russian spirits exported to India in these 10 months was about US $ 9 lakh.
According to Agroexport, the biggest reason for this export growth has been vodka. Vodka exports alone are estimated to be worth around US$7.6 million between January and October 2025. That means a major part of the total export value has come from this category.
However, India is still not among the top countries for Russia in terms of total imports. India ranked 14th among the countries importing liquor from Russia between January and October.
India’s share in terms of tonnes- 1.3%
Share according to revenue- 1.4–1.5%
Despite this, India is being counted among the fastest growing markets for Russia.
Major importers of Russian wine include countries like Kazakhstan, Georgia, China, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Belarus, but the pace of imports into India has caught the attention of experts.
