Important meeting of parliamentary committee regarding NEET, emphasis on change in examination system
Tezzbuzz Desk – An important meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee related to the Ministry of Education was held on Monday amid the ongoing discussions regarding National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The meeting was presided over by committee chairman and Congress leader Digvijay Singh. During this, many important issues like examination system, security arrangements and strengthening the confidence of students were discussed in detail.
Senior officials of the Education Ministry as well as representatives of the Health Ministry, Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and members of various expert organizations were also present in the meeting. The main topic of discussion was the balance between traditional paper-pen-based examination and computer-based examination (CBT) and the future examination system.
During the meeting, a statement of Digvijay Singh was especially discussed. He said that he has faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the examination system of the country. He expressed hope that no injustice will be allowed to the students and all the processes will be completed in a transparent manner.
The MPs present in the meeting raised many questions regarding the security of the examination. Members asked what special measures were being taken to prevent incidents like question paper leaks in future. On this, the officials said that to make the examination process more secure, the help of expert teachers and professors is being taken and monitoring has been increased at many levels.
The MPs also suggested that it is extremely important to restore the confidence of the students before the upcoming examinations. Some members suggested that a special message or appeal can be issued by the Central Government to reassure the students, so that the apprehensions arising in their minds regarding the examination are removed.
Many suggestions also came forward regarding the future examination system. The members said that preparation for next year’s examinations should be started from now. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening the computer-based examination system, increasing cyber security and encouraging technological innovations related to the examination.
MPs from both the ruling party and the opposition participated in the meeting. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ghanshyam Tiwari, Bansuri Swaraj and Sambit Patra were present from the ruling party, while T. Sumathi of DMK, Rajeev Rai of Samajwadi Party and Dean Kuriakose of Congress participated from the opposition side.
This meeting of the committee is being considered as an important step towards improving the NEET examination system and strengthening the confidence of the students.
