Important responsibility handed over to former Indian cricketer for semi-finals
New Delhi, 04 March 2026: T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Final. ICC has announced the names of match officials and umpires for the semi-final matches of T20 World Cup 2026. The two semi-final matches of the tournament will be played on March 4 and 5 in Kolkata and Mumbai.
The first semi-final will be played at Eden Gardens on March 4, where South Africa will face New Zealand. Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharfe will be the on-field umpires. At the same time, Nithin Menon and Rod Tucker have been given the responsibility of third and fourth umpires, while former Indian fast bowler Javagal Srinath will be the match referee.
Who will umpire the IND vs ENG semi-final match?
The second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is between India and England. The on-field umpires for this match will be Chris Gaffney and Alauddin Palekar, whereas Adrian Holdstock and Chris Gaffney had previously officiated in the semi-final match between the two teams in 2024. Meanwhile, Alauddin Palekar has been active in both India and England matches this season.
Paul Reiffel has been selected as the third and fourth umpires, while Andy Pycroft has been appointed as the match referee.
India will enter the field to defend the title
The Indian team is currently the defending champion and is eyeing its third T20 World Cup title. This is the third consecutive T20 World Cup semi-final between India and England. In 2022, England defeated India by 10 wickets in Adelaide, while in 2024, India leveled the score by winning by 63 runs.
