But experts say that while choosing a room heater, it is very important to pay attention not only to its warmth or price, but also to some important safety features. Often people, in a hurry or due to lack of knowledge, buy such models which do not even include basic safety features. As a result, not only electricity consumption increases but also the risk of serious accidents like fire in the house arises.
Two features that are often overlooked while shopping are overheat protection and tip-over switch. Experts warn that buying a room heater without these two features is no less than a risk.
1. Overheat Protection: Reduces the possibility of fire
Overheat protection is considered the most important part of the safety of any heater. The room heater keeps releasing hot air continuously and sometimes its coils become extremely hot during prolonged use. If the heater does not have overheat protection, it may not detect the temperature rise and the heater may burn out internally.
This situation can lead to serious accidents like melting of plastic body, generation of smoke or fire. But the overheat protection system automatically switches off the heater if the temperature rises abnormally.
