Washington: Imposing tariffs on India could trigger a trade war. This is what America's newly elected MP Suhas Subramaniam says. He has said that he is against imposing tariffs on India as it would lead to a trade war between the two countries. Subramaniam made this comment at a time when the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump is likely to impose higher duties on Indian exports.
American MP Suhas Subramaniam said in an interview to a news agency that I do not support imposing tariffs on India. I think that would be really bad. This will lead to a trade war and I don't think that's good for any country.

Trump had targeted India's tariff structure before being elected President of America. He talked about imposing mutual taxes on countries like China and India. With Trump taking charge as US President, higher duties are likely to be imposed on Indian exports.
India will strengthen America's trade
Subramaniam said there are many businesses that do really well in India and many Indian companies are expanding in the US. Therefore, the more our countries work together economically. We will be that much stronger.

Subramaniam said that India is one of the largest democracies and relations between the US and India are very important for both the countries. Subramaniam is the sixth Indian-American elected to the US House of Representatives, after Dr. Ami Bera, Pramila Jayapal, Raja Krishnamurthy, Ro Khanna and Shri Thanedar.
