Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sentenced to 17 years, both got punishment in Toshakhana case
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 17 years each in the Toshakhana-2 case. The special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) pronounced this sentence on Saturday, in which both are accused of purchasing expensive Bulgari jewelery sets at a very low price against the rules. In this case, it has been claimed that there has been loss to the government exchequer.
The decision was pronounced by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently lodged. The court sentenced Imran Khan to 10 years rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code (criminal breach of trust) and 7 years under Section 5(2)47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (criminal misconduct by public servants).
Similarly, his wife Bushra Bibi has also been given the same punishment. A fine of Rs 1.64 crore (16.4 million Pakistani rupees) has also been imposed on both of them. The court also made it clear that if the fine is not paid, they will have to face additional punishment.
The court cited the age of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi being a woman as the reason for leniency in the sentence, and this was the reason why a slightly lesser approach was adopted.
The Toshakhana-2 case pertains to government gifts, in which it is alleged that Imran Khan and his wife bought an expensive Bulgari jewelery set at a very low price, contrary to the rules.
