Imran Khan says he was locked up in a cage, treated worse than animals- The Week

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday made shocking claims about his condition in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, saying if anything happens to him, Army Chief Asim Munir and DG ISI are responsible. “Asim Munir is the most tyrannical dictator in history and is mentally unstable,” Imran said.

His political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) released a statement saying he was being kept in solitary confinement with no sunlight or power. He was also denied clean water, medical assistance and basic facilities that are available for regular inmates, according to the party.

Earlier in the day, his sister, Uzma Khan, was allowed to meet him, following which the shocking revelations were made. She said her brother’s “morale was high” though he was angry about how he is treated in the prison.

Uzma Khanum, who is a doctor, said, “He is physically well. But he is kept inside all the time and only goes out for a short while. There is no contact with anybody.

Imran Khan said he was locked up in a cage and treated worse than animals. “Electricity to my cell was shut off for five days. I was confined to the cell for 10 days,” the former Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician said.

Pakistani authorities has dismissed allegations of mistreatment, claiming that the former prime minister is being given all entitlements available to prisoners. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said it is up to jail officials to decide on prison visits and the government has no control over it.
