“You are a terrorist, Iran war happened because of people like you” – Obnews
A professor of PES University, Bengaluru has been suspended. The action came after a video surfaced in which the professor is seen repeatedly calling a Muslim student “**terrorist**” during a lecture in the classroom on March 24, 2026. This incident took place in front of about 60 students on the university campus. After this clip went viral on social media, it was strongly condemned everywhere.
According to several reports and viral videos, Adjunct Professor **Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande** targeted a student named **Affan** and allegedly called him a “terrorist” at least 13 times. He is also accused of making derogatory comments, such as “The Iran war happened because of people like you,” “Trump is going to take you,” and “You’re an idiot, you’re going to hell.” In the video footage, the professor can be heard angrily shouting, “Aren’t you ashamed?”
Students described the incident as creating a hostile and abusive environment. This video, recorded by another student, was strongly criticized by student organizations. These include the National Students Union of India (NSUI), which filed a complaint terming these comments as religious hate speech.
PES University took immediate action and suspended Professor Deshpande pending a detailed internal investigation. The administration called the behavior “100% unacceptable” and confirmed they are investigating the video, as well as investigating the matter through a disciplinary committee. According to reports, the professor has submitted a written apology to the university, but has not directly apologized to the victim student.
Allegations of deletion of CCTV footage and suspension of some students supporting Affan have also come to light. These students were officially suspended on the pretext of talking in class. Police have been contacted, although formal action is still in process.
The incident has further intensified the debate on preventing discrimination and ensuring accountability in educational institutions. All this is happening at a time when concerns are rising about communal tension in educational institutions. The university has assured a fair investigation.
