In Bharat Taxi, 80% of the earnings go to the drivers, Amit Shah said – ‘Sarathi first, company later’
Union Home Minister Amit Shah met the taxi drivers of Bharat Taxi in Delhi and answered in detail the questions raised regarding their newly launched ride-hailing platform. Shah assured the drivers that this initiative has been made for their welfare and economic strength and not in the race for big profits like other companies. He clarified that in Bharat Taxi, the drivers will be the real owners and most of the benefits of their hard work will reach them only.
Bharat Taxi, launched on February 5, is India’s first government-backed cooperative ride-hailing app, which has the strong support of Amul, IFFCO and NABARD. It is based on a driver-ownership model, where transparency, fairness and drivers’ earnings are given top priority. Shah appealed to the drivers to be patient for the first three years, so that the platform can expand to many states of the country.

Driver-owned model
Amit Shah said that only the drivers will get 80% of the earnings. He said that the purpose of the platform is to create a fair and transparent system. No commission will be charged here, only nominal membership fee. Surge pricing will be completely stopped and fares will be clearly fixed.
Response to concerns from previous companies
Referring to drivers’ concerns about previous ride-hailing companies, Shah said that earlier a large part of your earnings used to go to the owners of those companies. With Bharat Taxi, you are your own boss. Only those who work hard should get profits.
Driver is the owner, investment of only Rs 500
Shah said that our aim is to make the owner prosperous. The only difference is that you are the boss. You will have to invest only Rs 500. If Bharat Taxi earns Rs 25 crore, 20 per cent will go into the company’s account as your share and the remaining 80 per cent will be distributed based on taxi operations. This means that apart from rental income, you will also get profits. You will have to be patient for the first three years. Accounts will be transparent and you will be able to see them easily. It will work on cooperative principles. Bharat Taxi will not exploit you.
