In Jagannathdev’s palace there is ‘Tonka Torani’, a sour drink that keeps the body cool in intense heat.

Hot devotees come to God in hot summer. The chest is bursting with thirst. In such a situation only prasad can revive the devotee’s life. So there is a drink in the list of Jagannath Dev’s Prasad, which instantly calms the mind and body. Forgetting the fatigue of the way, the devotee joins hands in devotion to God.

It is believed that this drink has been served in Jagannath Dham for thousands of years. This drink is prepared by taking some of the rice that is offered to God in Panpancha Bhoga and soaking it in water for a long time. Even after all these years, there has been no change in the method of making it.

But the public can drink it freely. The name of this Odisha drink is ‘Tonka Torani’. It is also consumed as Mahaprasad at the Jagannath Temple in Puri, and during Rath Yatra. If people want to cope with the intense heat of summer, they can make it and drink it at home.

It does not have the smell of sugar or sweets like current sherbet. Rather, there is an excess of salty-sour taste. ‘Tonka Torani’ does not allow the body to become dehydrated. Helps to detoxify. Also, since it is made by oxidation, it contains probiotics, which help in digestion.
