Sources said that Central Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar held a meeting with senior officials of Maharashtra and Jharkhand where assembly elections are to be held on Tuesday (Assembly Election 2024). Chief Electoral Officer, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police of both the states were present in this meeting. Senior officials of the states bordering the state also participated in the meeting. In this meeting, Rajiv Kumar expressed concern over the increasing political violence in Maharashtra. Rajiv Kumar ordered Maharashtra Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla to take strict action against those who spoil the election atmosphere.

He also said that strict steps should be taken to stop election money, misuse of liquor and distribution of valuables including gold and silver. Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, property worth Rs 345 crore has been seized in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. It has assets worth Rs 175 crore in Maharashtra. Often large amounts of money for electoral use come from states adjacent to the states where elections are being held. Illegal liquor is also brought in large quantities. Rajiv Kumar also ordered to increase police patrolling at border posts.
