New Delhi. Former US Army Chief of Staff General Randy George was forcefully retired by US War Secretary Pete Hegseth on Saturday. In his farewell email to Pentagon officials, George wrote that US soldiers deserve leaders of character and courage. The rapid reshuffle of the US military’s top command gained momentum this weekend when General Randy George, the 41st Chief of Staff of the Army, was immediately removed from his post. His departure is the latest in a long string of firings by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, as the administration moves to appoint leaders with a certain ideology to the War Department.

General George addressed the undersecretary, assistant secretary and his top officials in a message that many are seeing as a sharp dig at the Pentagon’s new leadership. He wrote that it has been my greatest privilege to serve with you and lead the troops in support of my country. He said, I know that all of you will remain completely focused on your mission, constantly innovating and fearlessly overcoming bureaucratic hurdles to give our troops what they need to win on the modern battlefield. This emphasis on character and courage comes amid reports that Hegseth had called for George’s immediate retirement so that he could be replaced by a successor who could more aggressively implement President Trump’s military agenda. He further said that our soldiers are truly the best in the world. I have no doubt that you will all continue to lead with courage, character and tenacity. The Wall Street Journal reports that Hegseth ousted two Army generals in a major reshuffle after pledging regime change over the Iran war. The Wall Street Journal reports that after General Randy George (Chief of Staff of the Army), General David Hodney (who became head of the service’s Training and Transformation Command in October) and Major General William Green Jr. (Chief Chaplain of the Army) were also removed from their posts. The dismissal follows a long series of confrontations between the Pentagon chief and the service’s senior leadership.
