In this village of Bihar, pulses and vegetables are not cooked in 75% of the houses, you will be shocked to know the reason.

Even after so many days of independence, there is a village in Bihar where 75 percent of the families do not cook pulses and vegetables. This village is Badgaon Khurd of Adhaura block of Kaimur district. 75 percent of the population here is living by working as labourers. Green vegetables and pulses are not cooked in their homes. Many of these people are not able to get work every day. The wages here are less compared to the city. The laborer family is somehow surviving. Rice and wheat are available from the public distribution system shops, due to which they do not have to worry much about arranging food grains.

65-year-old Jagroop Oraon of Badgaon Khurd of Adhaura block says that he does not remember when pulses and green vegetables were cooked in his house. There are seven members in the family. Elder brother Munshi Oraon remains ill. It is necessary to arrange medicine for them. Jagrup's bones are no longer strong enough to enable him to work. His son Chintu Oraon lives in another city and works as a labourer. Household expenses are covered by his earnings.

Jagroop tells that he, his wife Jatta Devi and sister-in-law Shanichari Devi are all old people. They cannot earn wages. Have two daughters Meena Kumari and Anju Kumari. When asked, Jagrup told from where to arrange pulses and vegetables. There is one earner and seven eaters. They eat anything like mashed rice, crushed green chillies etc. 70 year old Rajdev Oraon was once very strong physically. At that time, most of the work was done in MNREGA and the wages were good. But, now the bone became weak. The household expenses are covered by the earnings of the only son, Kamla Oraon. The families of Jagroop and Rajdev like Chhotalal Oraon, Vijay Kharwar, Bharat Kharwar etc. are also surviving somehow.
