Income Tax Department employees beware! Did you save tax by showing fake donations? Now Income Tax Department is sending you notice
Fake deductions in income tax return: If you have also claimed fake donations or false deductions to save tax while filing income tax return (ITR), then be careful. The Income Tax Department is in a mood to take strict action against such taxpayers and has started sending SMS and emails to people making suspicious claims. The Income Tax Department has also given taxpayers an opportunity to correct their mistakes and appealed to them to update their income tax returns. Why did the department take this step? The Finance Ministry said that a major flaw has come to light in the analysis of data done by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). The analysis revealed that a large number of taxpayers had made false claims of donations to registered but unrecognized political parties (RUPPs) or dubious charitable institutions. The main objective of these false claims was to minimize the tax liability and obtain incorrect refunds from the government. The department found that many taxpayers had either donated to dubious organizations or did not have the necessary evidence to prove the authenticity of the organization receiving the donation. and provides an opportunity to withdraw any false claim.” For this, the department has started sending notifications on the registered mobile numbers and email IDs of taxpayers from December 12, 2025. Many people have corrected their mistakes. This initiative of the department is also showing positive results. A large number of taxpayers have amended their returns for the current assessment year (AY 2025-26) and have withdrawn their incorrect claims by filing updated returns for previous years as well. If you have also made such a mistake, it is extremely important to update your income tax return immediately.
