A state-wise analysis also revealed that smaller Union Territories have seen the fastest percentage increase, while larger states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Bihar have higher total number of cases.

Where did the number of patients increase the most?

According to government data, Daman saw a 39.51% increase in cancer cases. Moreover, Dadra and Nagar Haveli (30.09%), Sikkim (26.06%), Lakshadweep (18.52%) and Manipur (18.48%) also saw a significant increase. Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka also saw growth of over 10 percent. According to the report, tobacco consumption, pollution and lifestyle factors are playing an important role in this increase.

Higher burden in states with higher population

In terms of population, the states of Uttar Pradesh (2.21 lakh), Maharashtra (1.27 lakh), West Bengal (1.18 lakh) and Bihar (1.15 lakh) reported the highest number of cases. The percentage increase in these states may seem small, but the total number is huge.
