India faced difficulties on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, finishing at 164/5 and trailing Australia by 310 runs. A solid 102-run stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal (82) and Virat Kohli (36) was broken by a costly mix-up that led to Jaiswal being run out. Australia’s innings concluded at 474, with Steve Smith scoring his 34th Test century and the team adding 143 runs in the morning session.
