In fact, Melbourne Cricket Ground curator Matt Page said before the match on Monday, “I think we are really happy with what we have done in the last few years. We see no reason to change it. We have seen three great Test matches so far on three great pitches. So we will try to do something similar to what we have done in recent years and expect an exciting match.”

Matt Page said, “Seven years ago the pitch was quite flat. We want to create more exciting competitions and test matches. So now we leave more grass on the pitches. This gives more opportunities to the bowlers, but after the new ball becomes soft, the batting will also be good. We have been running at six millimeters for the last few years. We'll keep an eye on this going forward, but we're very happy with the results as of late. So we have to repeat our work.”

However, Page clarified that this pitch will not prove helpful to the spinners. He said, “It (the pitch) does not break and does not spin. If you look at our longer format matches in the last four or five years, they have been more seam-friendly than spin. So I don't see any change here. We have not made any changes to our pitches because of the balls.”
