IND vs BAN: Ishan Kishan to be Snubbed With Jitesh Sharma Tipped to be India's Second-choice Keeper for T20Is: Report

India’s out-of-favour wicketkeeper-batter, Ishan Kishan could see himself being pipped by Jitesh Sharma in the side for the second wicketkeeping slot for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh.

According to a report from the Press Trust of India (PTI), Jitesh could well pip Ishan Kishan for the second wicketkeeper’s slot in the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian T20 team which will play three T20Is starting October 6 in Gwalior, with the squad likely to be announced this week.

Rishabh Pant could likely be rested to ensure that he is fully focused for the 10 Tests this WTC season which gives way to Sanju Samson being the first-choice keeping option for the T20I side.

Kishan has also been picked for the Rest of India (ROI) squad which will later compete in the Irani Cup 2024 tournament where they take on the defending Ranji Trophy champions, Mumbai.

Kishan’s selection in the Rest of India squad also means that his international comeback could be slightly delayed.

With Team India set to play a three-match Test series at home against New Zealand following the Bangladesh series, the likes of Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah could see themselves being rested as part of workload management.

It is also likely that a bunch of players who were part of the Zimbabwe tour earn another call-up to the national side. Players like Abhishek Sharma could get a look at the top of the order.

Hardik Pandya is set to return to the national side, along with Shivam Dube.

The likes of Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Ravi Bishnoi, all of whom, were part of the Zimbabwe series, are expected to be part of the squad.

Harshit Rana who was in Zimbabwe as a backup pacer could also get a chance.

Team India will take on Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series which is set to be held in Gwalior, New Delhi and Hyderabad respectively on October 6, October 9 and October 12.

The series could prove to be testing grounds as the national side will look to see who can replace the senior pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, both of whom, retired after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
