IND vs ENG: Team India will take revenge for the defeat in T20, keep an eye on England’s 9 meter plan
Knews Desk– The ODI series between India and England is going to start. After suffering a crushing defeat in the T20 series, now everyone’s eyes are on whether England will enter the ODI with the same strategy which had troubled the Indian batsmen badly. In the T20 series, the English bowlers had destroyed the batting order of Team India by continuously bowling at short off length i.e. around 9 meters length. Now the question is whether England will use the same ‘9 meter maze’ in ODIs or the Indian batsmen will be able to break it this time.
During the T20 series, England had clearly sensed the weakness of the Indian batsmen. The fast bowlers continuously resorted to short pitch and short off length balls, due to which the Indian batsmen could not score runs comfortably. This strategy was one of the biggest reasons for India’s 0-4 series defeat. One match of the five-match series was canceled due to rain, otherwise the margin of defeat could have been bigger. If we look at the statistics, before the fifth T20 played in Southampton, England had bowled 118 short pitched balls against India. Indian batsmen scored 171 runs on these balls, but also lost 11 wickets. After this, in the last T20 also, Abhishek Sharma, Shivam Dubey and Suryansh Shedge became victims of short off length balls. In this way, in the entire series, India lost a total of 14 wickets due to this strategy.
During this, England also exposed the technical weaknesses of many Indian batsmen. Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed by Jofra Archer on short balls twice in three matches. This made it clear that high-bouncing balls remain a big challenge for the Indian batsmen. However, the batting order of Team India in the ODI series will be quite different from the T20 team. This time, experienced batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will take the field, who have successfully faced the short balls of the world’s best fast bowlers in their careers. Captain Shubman Gill is also a technically strong batsman and is considered capable of playing such balls. The format of ODI cricket also gives more time to the batsmen to adapt to the conditions. Unlike T20, there is no pressure to play big shots on every ball, so batsmen can manage the innings by adopting better strategies against short balls. This is why it will be interesting to see how successful this strategy of England will be in ODIs.
On the other hand, England has a strong force of Joffra Archer, Mark Wood and other fast bowlers, who can trouble any batting line-up with their extra pace and bounce. In such a situation, if the pitch and weather cooperate, then the host team can once again make short off length bowling its biggest weapon. Now all eyes will be on whether England will create the 9 meter maze like in the T20 series again, or whether the experienced batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill will completely foil this strategy on the basis of their technique and experience. This strategic match between the two teams in the ODI series is going to be very exciting.
