IND vs ENG: Why was world champion India defeated in England? Captain Iyer told the biggest mistake

New Delhi: After becoming the T20 World Champion, the Indian team was expected to perform brilliantly on the England tour, but the result was completely opposite. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Team India could not succeed in winning a single match on the tour of Ireland and England. India suffered a 4-0 defeat in the five-match T20 series against England, while the first match was abandoned due to rain. After this disappointing performance, Captain Iyer openly mentioned the major reasons for the defeat.

Did not win even in the last match

In the fifth and final T20 match of the series, England, batting first, scored a huge score of 257 runs for 3 wickets. For the team, Jos Buttler scored 131 runs and captain Harry Brook played a brilliant inning of 95 not out. In reply, the Indian team could score only 201 runs after losing 8 wickets and lost the match.

Iyer said- learned a lot from this tour

After the match, captain Shreyas Iyer said that this tour has given many important lessons to the team. According to him, while playing in foreign conditions, it is very important to understand the situation and change your strategy accordingly. He admitted that the team’s approach while batting was not correct and the players will have to adapt themselves according to the circumstances of the match.

Fielding became the biggest reason for defeat

Iyer admitted that the team’s fielding was not as per expectations. He said that many easy catches were dropped, which directly benefited England. The captain believes that it is very important to have better fielding on different sized grounds abroad and the team will have to work hard in this department.

Team India could not build partnership

The captain also said that while chasing the target, the batsmen focused more on scoring fast runs rather than making big partnerships. The team came under pressure due to wickets falling at regular intervals and could not reach the big target. According to him, if partnerships were formed then it was possible to achieve the target of 220 to 225 runs.

Praising England’s batting

Shreyas Iyer also praised the England batsmen. He said that Jos Buttler and Harry Brook batted brilliantly and implemented their strategy well. The big partnership between the two took England to a strong score and from there the match went out of India’s hands.
