IND vs IRE T20I: Why did BCCI drop Varun Chakravarthy from the team?

The Indian team has suffered a big setback before the T20 series against Ireland. Star spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of the two-match T20 series due to injury. Varun was earlier a part of the Indian team for this series. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the updated team for this T20 series. The board has also officially confirmed that Varun Chakravarthy is not fully fit yet and needs to focus on his recovery.

 

Let us tell you that before the England tour, the Indian team will tour Ireland. In which a two-match T20 series is to be played. The first match of this series is to be played on 26th June and the second match is to be played on 28th June. Both matches will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Belfast. According to Indian time, both the matches will be played at 3 pm.

Why was Varun Chakraborty out of the team?

BCCI said in its press release that Varun Chakraborty suffered a left leg injury in the last stage of IPL 2026. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI Center of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is in the final stages of recovery but the medical team has decided not to take the risk of sending him on the Ireland tour.

 

Varun Chakraborty has emerged as an important bowler of the Indian T20 team in recent times. He has taken 73 wickets in 45 T20 International matches so far. Apart from this, he also has 10 wickets in his name in four ODI matches. He played his last international match on March 8 this year in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dubey, Tilak Verma (vice-captain), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Prasidh Krishna.
