IND vs NZ 1st T20I Playing 11: Suryakumar Yadav-led India will square off against Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand in the 1st T20I match of the series on January 21 at Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, Vidarbha.

The Blackcaps secured a 2-1 victory in the ODI series of the New Zealand tour of India 2026 and will be aiming to replicate the success in the T20I series.

Meanwhile, India will be aiming to get a comeback in the short format and with the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 near, the T20I series will be crucial for both sides.

India and New Zealand have played 25 T20 international matches against each other so far, where the Men in Blues have 14 victories, while the Kiwis have 10 wins and one match ended in a tie.

New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl. Speaking at the toss Mitchell Santner said, “We are going to bowl first. Looks like a pretty good wicket and looks pretty high-scoring. Last week was pretty special.”

“Every team knows how hard it is to come to India and won but this is a fresh series and they are a tough team in home conditions. Great start for us in terms of prep for the World Cup,” concluded Santner

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav said, “We were looking to bowl first because we felt there was dew around 8.30 during our practice. But we don’t mind putting runs on the board and we have done well batting first. Shreyas, Harshit, Bishnoi and Kuldeep are the ones who are missing out.”
