Delhi: The first day of the three-match Test series between India and New Zealand was washed away due to rain, after which the match started from the second day. While playing against New Zealand, Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant suffered a knee injury on the second day, due to which he had to leave the field. Now the news had come out that Pant would not be able to keep wickets on the third day of the first test. The Indian team management confirmed this before the start of the match on Friday.

The statement issued by the team said, “Rishabh Pant will not do wicketkeeping on the third day. The BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition.”

Pant suffered a knee injury while catching the ball from star spinner Ravindra Jadeja in the 37th over of New Zealand's first innings, after which he limped off the field. In his place, Dhruv Jurel has been given the responsibility of wicketkeeping.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma told after the second day's play that Pant's knee is swollen, but the injury does not appear to be serious. Rohit said, “Unfortunately the ball hit him directly on the same knee where he had undergone surgery. This is a precautionary measure and we do not want to take any risk.”
