Delhi: Even though India’s explosive opener Rohit Sharma did not bat in the third and decisive ODI against New Zealand, the match played at Holkar Stadium in Indore gave him a historic achievement. With this match, Rohit completed his 100 ODI matches on Indian soil and joined the exclusive club of the great Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit’s special place on Indian soil
This match played in Indore was very special for Rohit’s career. This was his 100th ODI match in India. Before this, he had played 99 ODIs on Indian soil. Although, he could not play a big innings in this historic match, but his name got registered in the record book.
Entry into Sachin Tendulkar’s record club
The record of playing most ODI matches in India is still held in the name of Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar played a total of 164 ODI matches in India between 1990 and 2011. In this case, Rohit has now become the fifth Indian batsman, who has played 100 or more ODI matches on home ground.
Rohit’s name with these giants
Apart from Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have played 130-130 ODI matches in India. Mohammad Azharuddin played 113 ODIs on Indian soil, while Yuvraj Singh has 111 matches in his name. Now Indian openers have also joined this prestigious list.
Even though runs did not come from his bat in this match, but in terms of records, this match became a memorable chapter in Rohit Sharma’s career.
