This amazing sight was seen in Pune Test after 59 years, 3 players together made a unique record

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Pune: The second test match between India and New Zealand is being played in Pune. Something happened in this match which is rarely seen. In fact, it rarely happens that a few players together destroy the opposing team. Washington Sundar bowled lethally for India and broke the back of New Zealand by taking 7 wickets. Ashwin took 3 wickets and the New Zealand team was limited to 259 runs. In this way, Team India achieved a unique feat in the history of its Test cricket.

New Zealand, who came to bat first after winning the toss, were given three blows by experienced spinner R Ashwin. He first showed the way to the pavilion to Tom Latham, then Will Young and then Devon Conway. After this, Washington Sundar wreaked havoc on the New Zealand batsmen. He created history by taking 7 consecutive wickets.

Washington Sundar's strong comeback

Washington Sundar has returned to Team India after almost 4 years. Sundar capitalized this opportunity very well and got his wicket in the form of Rachin Ravindra. After this, he took a series of wickets and made 7 New Zealand batsmen his victims. The interesting thing is that Sundar bowled out 5 out of 7 batsmen. In this way, Sundar has become the 5th Indian bowler to bowl out 5 batsmen in an innings of a test match.

Indian bowlers who bowled out the most number of batsmen in an innings

  • 5 – Jasubhai Patel vs Australia, Kanpur 1959
  • 5 – Bapu Nadkarni vs Australia, Brabourne 1960
  • 5 – Anil Kumble vs South Africa, Johannesburg 1992
  • 5 – Ravindra Jadeja vs Australia, Delhi 2023
  • 5 – Washington Sundar vs New Zealand, Pune 2024

India did this feat for the third time in test cricket

R Ashwin and Washington Sundar together took all 10 wickets. Apart from these two, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant also contributed in getting New Zealand all out. Actually, Pant took 2 catches behind the wicket. In this way, only 3 players of India together bundled out the entire New Zealand team for 259 runs.

This is the third time in the history of Indian Test cricket that only 3 players contributed in getting the opposition team all out. Earlier, for Team India, Jasu Patel, Chandu Borde and Abbas Ali Baig had defeated the Australian team in the Kanpur Test in 1959. After this, in the year 1965, S. Venkataraghavan, Bhagwat Chandrashekhar and Chandu Borde had all out New Zealand in the Delhi Test.
