Delhi: The 5-match T20 series between India and South Africa is starting from 9th December. Team India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is returning in this series. After this, questions are being raised whether Sanju Samson will not get a chance now. On this, T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has clearly said that Shubman should get a chance to open after his return. He told that this is the reason why the team chose Gill as the opener ahead of Sanju.
Suryakumar Yadav talked about Shubman-Sanju
Speaking to the press before the first T20 against South Africa, he said that Samson is still included in the team’s plans.
He said, “When Sanju started, he used to bat higher. But, except the openers, everyone else has to be flexible. He did well in the opening, but Shubman had played before him in the Sri Lanka series, so he deserved the opening slot.”
When asked about the choice between Samson and Jitesh, the Indian captain said, “We have given a lot of opportunities to Sanju and he is ready to bat at any position. Be it opening or anywhere from number 3 to 6. Both players are important for the team. Both can open and can also play down the field. This is a plus point for the team.”
Surya told that the team now wants to strengthen the right combination keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2026. He said, “We don’t want to make too many changes. Just see what kind of cricket we have to play. Everything else is going well.”
