IND W vs AUS W 2nd ODI: Georgia Woll’s century, Australia won 12th consecutive ODI series from India
Hobart: Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series by defeating defending champions India by five wickets with 83 balls remaining in the second women’s ODI cricket match here on Friday, with the help of Georgia Woll’s attractive century. India won the toss and batted first and scored 251 runs for nine wickets. India got off to a good start with Pratika Rawal’s inning of 52 runs off 81 balls. He hit six fours in his innings.
The Indian team, however, faltered in the middle overs. After this, Harmanpreet scored 54 runs in 70 balls with the help of two fours and one six. Australia registered an easy victory by scoring 252 runs for five wickets in 36.1 overs with the help of excellent innings by Georgia Woll (101 runs on 82 balls, 13 fours, one six) and Phoebe Litchfield (80 runs on 62 balls). In this way Australia continued its excellent record in the bilateral ODI series against India. Australia has won all 12 bilateral ODI series against India so far.
Australia did not have a good start and lost the wicket of captain Alyssa Healy (06), playing her last international series, early, who was bowled by Kashvi Gautam (2 for 47) on an inswinging yorker. After this, however, Lichfield and Woll did not allow India to get any success for the next 15 overs and meanwhile made a partnership of 119 runs in 15.4 overs for the second wicket. Both of them faced India’s pace and spin attack with ease and also took advantage of India’s poor fielding. Kranti Gaur (1 wicket for 54 runs) broke this partnership by dismissing Lichfield.
Lichfield was bowled in an attempt to scoop. He hit 11 fours and one six in his innings. Voll made a partnership of 82 runs in 67 balls for the third wicket with Beth Mooney (31). After completing her century, she returned to the pavilion after being caught at fine leg off Kasvi’s ball. Deepti Sharma (2 for 32) dismissed Mooney and then Annabel Sutherland (10) but this had no impact on the result. Ashley Gardner (19 not out) hit the winning four. Earlier, Rawal gave a strong start to Smriti Mandhana (31) by making a partnership of 78 runs for the first wicket.
India tried to take advantage of the favorable batting conditions but some poor shot selection left them in trouble for the second consecutive time in this series. Mandhana missed the paddle sweep and the ball from Gardner (2/39) hit her leg stump. Jemimah Rodrigues (11) played a loose shot outside the off stump and was caught by the wicketkeeper off the ball of Sutherland (2 for 37). Deepti Sharma (01) was caught out at deep midwicket while trying to score a quick run on the ball of Alana King (2 wickets for 41 runs).
King then trapped Richa Ghosh (22) LBW. Kashvi (25) made an important partnership of 55 runs for the seventh wicket with Harmanpreet, which helped India reach 251 runs. The third and final ODI match between these two teams will be played here on March 1. After this, there will be a one-off test match between the two teams from March 6. India had earlier won the T20 series 2-1.
