India AI Impact Summit: Casebook on AI and women empowerment launched
- Joint initiative by MeitY and UN Women, supported by MoWCD, showcases gender responsive AI solutions from the Global South
New Delhi, February 27, 2026 – India AI Impact Summit AI and gender empowerment The casebook was officially launched on 17 February at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, marking an important milestone in India’s commitment to inclusive and ethical artificial intelligence advancements.
Government of India Developed by the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in partnership with UN Women and with support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD), the casebook brings together 23 real-world AI solutions from the Global South that demonstrate measurable impact on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Global recognition at the summit
When on 20th February 2026 Secretary General of the United Nations Casebook received international recognition when Antonio Guterres visited the UN Women stall at the JanAI Expo. During her visit, the Secretary General interacted with girls from rural communities pursuing STEM careers under the WeSTEM project implemented by UN Women in collaboration with the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra, European Union, Micron, Nokia and Head Held High Foundation.
How girls can use AI to develop new skills, expand access to learning, and empower emerging employmentWe shared what we are doing to explore the opportunities ahead, which reflect practical pathways to becoming the technology leaders of the future. A copy of the casebook was presented to the Secretary-General by UN Women’s Country Representative Kanta Singh during her visit to the Secretary-General, in the presence of the Under-Secretary-General and the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, Amandeep Singh Gill.
Showcasing race-responsive AI innovation
This casebook includes 23 selected from 233 submissions from more than 50 countries. AI SolutionsWhich were done through a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process. An independent evaluation committee composed of senior officials from MeitY, MoWCD and UN Women evaluated the submissions based on real-world use, measurable gender impact and evidence-based outcomes.

The casebook serves as a comprehensive knowledge resource for policy makers, technology developers, researchers and practitioners, highlighting practical options to ensure that AI systems are ethical, inclusive and responsive to the diverse realities of women and girls in India and developing countries. IndiaAI The mission supports the Government’s commitment to embedding gender-responsive principles across its seven working groups.
