India All Out For 156 Vs New Zealand: The Indian Cricket Team has been bowled out for just 156 runs in their first inning, putting New Zealand in a 103-run lead. India is now being threatened by the possibility of losing a Test series at home for the first time since 2012.
Today is Day Two of the second of three India vs New Zealand Tests. The match, which is being played in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, has a very spin-friendly pitch. So naturally, the Kiwis won the toss and decided to bat first.
In the first inning, the visitors got off to a decent start, losing only two wickets by 100 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin took the first three wickets for India. But around the time we approached the tea break, the Washington Sundar show started. The 25-year-old all-rounder took the remaining seven BlackCaps wickets, putting up the figures of 7/59 in 23.1 overs as New Zealand were bowled out for 259, an ine score on this pitch.

With about 10 overs remaining on the first day, India lost the wicket of captain Rohit Sharma on just the third over off a beautiful ball by Tim Southree that moved away from the batter and kissed the off-stump. But Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill batted the day out.
On Day Two, it was time for Mitchell Santner to take over the match. As Jaiswal and Gill steadily took India to 50 runs in 20 overs, Shubman was caught in front of the stumps by the Kiwi spinner for a personal score of 30, 50/2.
Then came probably the worst wicket of the day. Virat Kohli came into bat, and after just a couple of overs following the last wicket, he missed a full toss by Santner while looking to hit a sweep. He missed the ball completely and was bowled in the process, 56/3.
With India in real trouble of collapsing, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s turn to get out. At the score of 30, he edged a Glenn Phillips ball that was caught by Daryl Mitchell in the slips, 70/4.

By this time, the pitch had started to show its true colours. Not only did the ball spin a lot, but the bounce reduced as well. So after Sarfaraz Khan survived as Daryl Mitchell dropped his catch in the slips, Rishabh Pant, who was playing with the strike rate of over 100, then missed the Phillips delivery completely and was bowled, 83/5.
Wickets are now falling every 3-4 overs. We are now at the 34th over, and Mitchell Santner dismissed Sarfaraz Khan, who lobbed the ball to Will O’Rourke at mid-off, 95/6, as New Zealand is now looking to take a massive lead in this game.
Just a couple of overs later, a ball by Santner did not bounce at all, catching Ashwin’s feet in front of the stumps as the legendary spinner departed, 103/7. At 107/7, the first session of the day ended as India looked in real trouble of losing this game.
From this point, Ravindra Jadeja took the charge of scoring some runs, which he did. He scored 38 runs in about 45 deliveries before falling victim to Santner, who completed his fifer by dismissing Jadeja via lbw, 136/8.
Bowler Akash Deep then came onto the pitch and looked to slog, even hitting Santner for a six. But he was then bowled on the very next ball, becoming the ninth wicket of the inning at 142/9.
No. 11 bater Jasprit Bumrah was not long for this inning. On just his third delivery, Mitchell Santner dismissed him via lbw and thus completed his seven-wicket haul. India was all out for 156 and gave up a lead to the visitors of 103 runs.
On this spinning track, a 103-run lead might be a mountain too big to conquer. If the Indian Cricket Team loses this match, it will be their first home Test series loss since losing 2-1 to England back in 2012.
