India and United States Resume High Level Talks on Long Pending Trade Agreement

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held discussions with United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on advancing negotiations toward a bilateral trade agreement between the two countries. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference in Cameroon and marked their first in-person official engagement on the issue.

Officials described the talks as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic ties and address unresolved issues affecting trade access and tariffs between the two partners. The agreement under discussion is expected to play a key role in expanding cooperation across manufacturing, services and technology sectors.

Earlier reports suggested that India may delay finalizing the deal for several months while negotiators continue working through technical details. Both countries have indicated that progress will depend on resolving market access concerns and regulatory alignment across multiple sectors.

Trade relations between India and the United States have expanded steadily in recent years, with both governments emphasizing supply chain resilience and investment partnerships as strategic priorities.

Observers say the continued dialogue reflects the importance both sides place on securing a comprehensive framework that supports long term economic cooperation.
