Big step by India-Australia, PACTS will increase cooperation in cyber security, AI and supply chain.
India Australia Cyber Technology Partnership (PACTS): India and Australia together launched Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technology and Supply Chain (PACTS) on Thursday. Its objective is to increase mutual cooperation between the two countries in the field of cyber and critical technology. The Ministry of External Affairs said in the statement that the purpose of PACTS is to support common interests in national and regional security, empower our allies by providing more digital options, strengthen critical supply chains and strengthen global cyber capabilities.
PACTS will move forward on five pillars
PACTS will move forward with a shared strategic vision on five interlinked pillars, including supply chain strength and diversity, cooperation in critical technologies, cyber security, digital resilience and defense research. Under each of these pillars, India and Australia will identify opportunities and specific projects to promote collaboration between the private sector, universities, research institutions and government agencies, the ministry said.
Emphasis will be on supply chain and semiconductor
The statement said that Australia and India will work together to build a secure, strong and reliable supply chain to support the growing technology industries of both countries. This includes promoting security-related regulations, as well as strengthening rules-based bilateral technology trade and supply chains.”
In this, work will be done jointly on the supply chain of semiconductors and essential minerals – which also includes recycling and recovery. Additionally, commercial cooperation and trade diversification between Australian and Indian businesses will also be promoted.

Collaboration on international standards for AI
PACTS will leverage global efforts to advance international standards and benchmarks for trustworthy and safe AI by developing a framework that is based on democratic values, is consensual, and involves multiple stakeholders.
Australia and India will work together to leverage defense research partnerships to advance shared understanding of multi-domain defense challenges and capabilities, the statement said.
