India Bangladesh Visa Services Suspended: Amidst the diplomatic tension between India and Bangladesh, the interim government of Bangladesh took a major step on Thursday. The government has ordered suspension of visa services from its major missions in India, including Delhi, in view of security concerns.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor M. Tauheed Hussain has informed that instructions have been given to temporarily stop visa services in three important diplomatic missions of Bangladesh located in India.

In which cities visa services stopped?

The Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has suddenly stopped visa services overnight. At the same time, the work of issuing visas in the missions located in New Delhi and Agartala has also been postponed for the time being. However, visa services are continuing as normal at the diplomatic missions of Bangladesh located in Mumbai and Chennai.

‘Visa Bond’ from America Demand for concession on

Amid tensions with India, Bangladesh is now looking towards America. Tauheed Hossain said Bangladesh will make diplomatic efforts to get exemption from the ‘visa bond’ requirement recently imposed by the US.

He called the decision ‘unfortunate and painful’ for Bangladesh. However, he also admitted that this rule is creating immigration challenges not only for Bangladesh but for many countries.

Preparation to buy fighter jet from Pakistan?

In another shocking development, when the Foreign Advisor was asked about Bangladesh’s interest in purchasing JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft from Pakistan, he did not deny. He said that talks are going on in this regard and information will be given once things are finalized.

Tension increased after August 5

This tension between India and Bangladesh started after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on 5 August 2024. Following violent student-led protests, India had also banned visas for Bangladeshi citizens due to security reasons. Since then there has been a continuous strain in relations between the two countries.
