India-Bound Jetour T2 Plug-In Hybrid SUV Scores 5 Star NCAP Rating [Video]

JSW recently announced that they will be entering the Indian market as an independent automobile manufacturer, and they have tied up with Chinese brand Chery to bring a couple of models to our market. The first model likely to get launched under this tie-up is the Jetour T2. It is a popular SUV that is sold in many international markets. JSW will be bringing this SUV to India, but the name and brand will be different here. The India-bound JSW Jetour T2 was recently put through a crash test, and it passed the test with flying colours.

The video has been shared by ASEAN NCAP on their official YouTube channel. In this video, we see the Jetour T2 SUV being put through multiple tests to check the build quality and safety of the occupants. The ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries) is designed for the automotive market in Southeast Asia. It evaluates the safety of new vehicles sold in ASEAN member countries.

The Jetour T2, as mentioned above, is already available in many international markets. Just like in usual crash tests, we have dummies inside the car. There are two adult dummies at the front and two child dummies on the rear seat with child seats.

First was the offset frontal crash test against a deformable barrier. In this test, the car was pushed towards the barrier at a speed of 64 kmph. The SUV crashed into the barrier, and we see the front grille, fender, and the right front wheel of the SUV get damaged. The bonnet of the SUV was also damaged in this crash.

The driver and co-driver airbags deployed on time, and the structure of the SUV looked stable after the impact. In the next test, we saw how the Jetour T2 performed in the side-impact test. In this test, a deformable barrier crashed into the stationary vehicle. The curtain airbags opened in a timely manner. The child seats were intact in both tests, and the side body panels of the SUV absorbed the impact in a great manner.

As part of the crash tests, the Jetour T2 also went through ADAS tests, where it stopped in front of all the obstacles on time. The test was conducted in December 2025, but the video was released recently. The results say that the Jetour T2 scored a total of 86.50 points. This helped the SUV score a 5-star rating at the ASEAN NCAP. We feel the SUV would end up getting a similar score in the Bharat NCAP when it gets launched.

Jetour T2

The Jetour T2 will be launched sometime later this year. JSW has already started inviting interested dealers to tie up with the brand. It will be offered as a CKD product and will be assembled at their upcoming manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The Jetour T2 will be offered in the market as a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It is a large SUV with a boxy design that resembles the Land Rover Defender. In terms of size, the Jetour T2 is bigger than the Tata Safari.

The Jetour T2 will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. As this is a plug-in hybrid vehicle, the SUV will have an electric motor and a large battery pack that is likely to offer an electric driving range of around 100 km. It is internationally available with both AWD and FWD configurations, and there is not much information available on which version India will get.
