“India can’t win on rank turners; what next?”: Sanjay Manjrekar questions the team’s performance in the second Test vs NZ

Sanjay Manjrekar feels that preparing a turning pitch for the second Test between India and New Zealand has backfired for the host nation. He suggests that it has been more challenging for the Indian batters to score runs than for the rival players.

New Zealand scored 259 runs in their first innings, but the Rohit Sharma-led team was bowled out for 156 on Day 2. Not a single batter scored a fifty for India National Cricket Team, with Ravindra Jadeja’s 38 being the highest.

“India can’t win on a rank-turner; what is next? The series has been unexpected for the home team. The spin was supposed to be a test for the New Zealand batters, but it is the Indian batters who are under the scanner,” he said on ESPNcricinfo.

Manjrekar feels that the team management would be worried about how the batters have been dismissed by New Zealand spinners.

“The performance will worry the team management because the players were expected to perform against the spinners,” he added.

Ravindra Jadeja hasn’t been at his best with the ball. Sanjay Mnajrekar stated that Jadeja’s accuracy is not there.

“It is tough to maintain the consistency for a long time. Ravindra Jadeja’s accuracy is not there. He was a nightmare for the batters, but things have changed now. I don’t know whether there is some issue with the speed he is bowling with, but he is not getting good assistance from the pitch.”
