India created a new space history! First orbital flight of private rocket ‘Vikram-1’, PM Modi said – this is the flight of new India
New Delhi/Sriharikota. A new chapter has been added to India’s space sector. The country’s first privately developed orbital launch vehicle ‘Vikram-1’ was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Although the launch was scheduled to take place at 11:30 am, it was stopped for some time due to technical checks in the final stage. After this the mission was carried forward.
Congratulating the countrymen and scientists on this historic achievement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as “a historic new frontier” in India’s space travel. He said that this achievement is a symbol of the talent, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit of the youth of the country.
What is ‘Mission Arrival’?
‘Mission Arrival’ is the first orbital test flight of the Vikram-1 rocket developed by Skyroot Aerospace. The objective of this mission is to test the capability and performance of this launch vehicle developed entirely with indigenous technology.
If this mission is successful, then private companies of India will also be able to independently provide commercial services for sending satellites into space.
Specialty of Vikram-1-
Vikram-1 is named in honor of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program.
Key features of the rocket-
24 meter long orbital class rocket
Made from lightweight and strong carbon-composite structure
Three solid propulsion stages and one orbital adjustment module
Ability to place multiple satellites into different orbits in a single mission
Capable of delivering up to 350 kg of payload to a 450 km low-Earth orbit (LEO)
Why is this mission important?
Till now, most of the satellite launches in India have been done through rockets of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The success of Vikram-1 is being considered a major achievement for India’s private space industry.
Experts believe that this will increase India’s share in the global launch market of small satellites and will give new recognition to private space companies at the international level.
Special things sent into space-
With the arrival of the mission, many special payloads have also been sent on a journey to space.
These include-
‘Diamond Lotus’ prepared in lab by Cosmos Diamonds
A miniature rocket made of 18 carat gold, with Sir C.V. Raman, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. A.P.J. Micro sculptures of Abdul Kalam have been made even smaller than grains of rice.
Handwritten postcard of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with “Vande Mataram” written on it.
Handwritten messages from the Skyroot Aerospace team, investors, policy-makers and well-wishers from across the world.
New beginning of India’s private space era-
This mission of Vikram-1 is not just a rocket launch, but is considered to be the beginning of a new era for India’s private space sector. If the trial is a complete success, India could emerge as a strong player in the global business launch services sector in the coming years.
