India created history in Chess Olympiad, won gold in men's and women's category for the first time

Chess Olympiad 2024: In the world of chess, Sunday 22 September 2024 has been recorded in golden letters in the history of India. Today has proved to be a very good day for India. India has managed to win the gold medal for the first time in the 45th Chess Olympiad. Grandmaster and World Championship Challenger Gukesh defeated Vladimir Fedoseev while Erigassi defeated Jan Subelj. Today is a day of doubly happiness for India because, in the ongoing Chess Olympiad 2024 in Hungary, India has won gold for the first time in both the Open Section (Men's) and Women's category.

The 45th Chess Olympiad has been going on for the past several days in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. 197 teams from 195 countries have participated in this game in the men's category and 183 teams from 181 countries have participated in the women's category. India was already considered a contender for the title in this game. In the match against Slovenia, Gukesh performed brilliantly in the technical phase with black pieces against Vladimir Fedoseev.

India became champion in the 45th Chess Olympiad

D Gukesh defeated Vladimir Fedoseev, and Arjun Erigasi defeated Jan Subelj to win the gold for India. India ensured at least one tie in their match against Slovenia and managed to win the gold. Let us tell you that this is the world's largest team tournament of chess in which different countries participate. India hosted it for the first time in 2022, when India won bronze medals in the open section and women's event. Earlier, Indian men had won bronze but for the first time India became champions in both the events.

India created history in the last round

This time in the world's biggest chess Olympiad game, the team of Gukesh, Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrati and P Harikrishna were competing from India's side in the open section. The Indian team had almost confirmed its gold medal with the victory against America on Saturday. Then India was in the first place with 19 points and China was in second place with 17 points. Only a draw was needed in the last round but India created history by winning the match 3-0 and becoming the champion. India scored a total of 21 out of 22 points in all 11 rounds.

Women's team became champion by defeating Azerbaijan

The women's team has won the gold by defeating Azerbaijan. Apart from Vaishali, Tania, Divya, D Harika and Vantika Agarwal were playing in the women's section from India. Before the last round of the game, the Indian team and Kazakhstan were jointly in the first position. However, it was very important to defeat Azerbaijan to win the match. From India, Harika, Divya and Vantika won their respective matches, while Vaishali's match was a draw. In this way, the Indian team won this round with 3.5-0.5 points and created history by winning the gold medal.
