India Cruise to Easy Win over West Indies in U19 Women’s T20 World Cup | Read
Defending champion India started its U19 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign in style, clinching a nine-wicket win against the West Indies at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
India, having won the toss, chose to bowl. After bowling out the Windies for 44 in the first innings, India chased down the total in 4.2 overs.
It was an all-round effort by the Indians with the ball and in the field to take control of the proceedings.
Joshitha VJ opened the deadlock for India as she trapped West Indies skipper Samara Ramnath plumb in her second over. The pacer then followed it up with a second wicket in the over, sending Naijanni Cumberbatch back to the pavilion for a duck.
The spin duo of Aayushi Shukla and Parunika Sisodia joined the party as India tightened its grip on the Group A fixture. Sisodia finished with a three-wicket haul.
Indian fielders also rose to the occasion, resulting in three run-outs as the Windies batters were unable to stitch a partnership.
Coming out to bat, Trisha G fell early after scoring just four, but Kamalini G and Sanika Chalke saw out the chase for India, which proved easy for the defending champion.
