India earn ₹24.28 crore ICC prize after T20 World Cup 2026 win
Ahmedabad: India have received USD 2.63 million (about ₹24.28 crore) from the International Cricket Council after winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The victory marked a historic achievement for the Indian team, as they became the first side to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title and also the first team to win the tournament on home soil.
India’s historic title defence
India delivered a commanding performance in the final against New Zealand, securing a comprehensive 96-run victory in front of a packed crowd in Ahmedabad.
The triumph ensured that India retained the T20 World Cup trophy after their previous success in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
Winning the title at home added another milestone to the achievement, as no team had previously managed to defend the T20 World Cup crown while hosting the competition.
The tournament witnessed strong performances from several Indian players across batting, bowling and fielding departments, helping the team maintain consistency throughout the competition.
ICC announces prize money distribution
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the International Cricket Council distributed prize money from the total pool of USD 11.25 million allocated for the event.
As champions, India received the highest share of the prize fund — USD 2,639,423.
New Zealand, who finished as runners-up after losing the final, received USD 1,422,692 from the prize pool.
The two semi-finalists also received substantial payouts. South Africa earned USD 1,005,577 for reaching the last four, while England received USD 974,423.
The prize money distribution reflects the ICC’s decision to significantly increase tournament rewards, a move that was first announced in 2024 as part of broader efforts to enhance incentives for international cricket competitions.
BCCI announces additional ₹131 crore reward
Apart from the ICC prize money, the Indian team has also received a massive financial reward from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
On March 10, the BCCI announced a cash prize of ₹131 crore for the Indian squad that won the T20 World Cup under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.
The reward marks an increase compared to the ₹125 crore announced after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024.
This year’s reward is ₹6 crore higher, reflecting the significance of the team’s historic achievement in defending the title.
The BCCI’s reward is expected to be distributed among the players, coaching staff and support personnel who contributed to the team’s success during the tournament.
Prize money for other teams
Several other participating teams also received financial rewards based on their performances and final standings in the competition.
West Indies earned USD 538,269, while Pakistan received USD 522,692.
Zimbabwe secured USD 491,538 and Sri Lanka earned USD 475,962 for their performances during the tournament.
Afghanistan, Australia and the United States each received USD 309,808 from the prize pool.
Scotland earned USD 278,654, while Ireland received USD 271,731.
Italy, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Nepal each received USD 256,154.
Meanwhile, Canada, Namibia and Oman received USD 225,000 each as part of the overall prize distribution.
The prize structure ensures that every participating team benefits financially from taking part in the global tournament.
Record prize pool for T20 World Cup
The total prize pool of USD 11.25 million for the T20 World Cup 2026 represents one of the largest reward structures in the history of the tournament.
The ICC had earlier announced plans to increase prize money across major tournaments to support teams and players participating at the highest level of international cricket.
Such financial incentives are also aimed at encouraging the growth of cricket in emerging nations and strengthening the global appeal of the sport.
For associate teams and smaller cricketing nations, the prize money serves as an important financial boost for infrastructure development and player support.
A milestone moment for Indian cricket
India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 is expected to be remembered as one of the defining moments in the country’s cricketing history.
The achievement of defending the title, combined with winning the tournament at home, underscores the team’s dominance in the shortest format of the game.
With strong performances from both experienced players and emerging talents, the Indian side demonstrated depth and balance throughout the competition.
The significant prize money earned from the ICC and the additional reward announced by the BCCI further highlights the scale of the team’s accomplishment and the importance of the victory for Indian cricket.
