India Edge England in High Scoring Thriller to Reach 2026 T20 World Cup Final

India secured a dramatic seven run victory over England in the second semifinal of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, booking their place in the final after an electrifying contest at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. In a match packed with explosive batting and tense moments, India posted a massive 253 for 7 before holding off England’s powerful chase, which ended at 246 for 7 after 20 overs.

India’s innings was driven by a spectacular performance from Sanju Samson, who smashed 89 runs from just 42 balls. His aggressive knock helped India reach one of the highest totals of the tournament. Samson formed a crucial partnership in the middle overs, keeping the scoring rate high on a flat batting wicket that offered little assistance to bowlers.

England’s response was equally aggressive as the team pushed hard to chase the daunting target. Young batter Jacob Bethell produced one of the most memorable innings of the tournament, scoring a brilliant century and keeping England in the contest until the final moments. Bethell’s fearless hitting brought England within striking distance of a historic run chase.

However, India’s bowling attack regained control during the closing overs. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a crucial spell that slowed England’s momentum at key stages of the innings. Support from Arshdeep Singh and tight fielding efforts helped India maintain just enough pressure to keep England from completing the chase.

Speaking after the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Samson’s innings and the team’s composure during England’s aggressive chase. He noted that Samson’s batting came at exactly the right moment for the team and credited the bowlers for holding their nerve in the final overs. Yadav also highlighted the strong support from the crowd at Wankhede Stadium, which created an electric atmosphere throughout the semifinal.

England captain Harry Brook acknowledged that his team made a few costly mistakes in the field, including a dropped catch that allowed Samson to continue his innings. Brook said England still had plenty to be proud of after fighting hard in the tournament and pushing India all the way in a thrilling semifinal.

With the victory, India advances to the T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad. The team will now prepare for the title match after surviving one of the most intense games of the tournament, while England exits the competition despite a powerful batting effort and a standout century from Bethell.
