Elections and ban: A direct attack on democracy?
According to Joy, ousting Awami League before the elections scheduled for February 12 is murder of democracy. He says that the political voice of almost half of the country’s population cannot be eliminated by any order. This decision already makes the election unreliable.
Serious allegations against Yunus government
Sajeeb Wazed Joy alleges that the real agenda of the interim government is to prepare the ground for an “Islamic regime”. He said that fundamentalist forces are being silently given strength, which will have a direct impact on the security of minorities and neighboring countries.
Why was India called a ‘real threat’?
Joy warned that increasing fundamentalism in Bangladesh could become a direct threat to India. Instability in the border areas, extremist networks and activities at Indian diplomatic bases all indicate a serious threat. This is the reason why India has expressed its concern by summoning the High Commissioner of Dhaka.
Is Bangladesh’s political legacy coming to an end?
When asked whether the era of Hasina and Zia, two big political legacies, was coming to an end, Joy said that nothing is permanent in politics. Referring to the murder of his maternal grandfather Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said that circumstances can change at any time.
Trust in the strength of Awami League
Joy claimed that even today Awami League has the support of about 40 percent voters. Lakhs of workers are still associated with the party. According to him, banning the party cannot destroy its roots and the protests will gradually intensify.
Shocking statement on the role of army
Regarding Bangladesh Army, Joy said that at present it remains just a “silent bystander”. According to him, the army is neither deciding the future of the country nor playing an active role in saving democracy.
Talks to mother Sheikh Hasina every day
Joy told that he talks to his mother Sheikh Hasina regularly on phone and has also come to Delhi. He says that his responsibility is to expose the false decisions, human rights violations and “anti-democratic face” of the Yunus government to the world. This statement of Sajeeb Wazed Joy is not just the pain of an exiled leader, but a serious warning regarding the direction of Bangladesh and the security of India. The question now is, will the February elections stabilize the situation, or is the region heading towards a bigger political-security crisis?
