Amidst the disruptions in energy supply, the government says that it is making serious efforts to normalize the situation, because the tension in the Middle East has badly affected the energy supply and has also increased the pressure on the availability of LPG.

India came up with a new trick

According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (Marketing and Oil Refinery), the impact of the conflict in West Asia is already visible on India. He said that about 90 percent of India’s LPG imports were through the Strait of Hormuz, and obstruction in this route has created a big problem. To deal with this situation, India is now importing LPG from America.

Apart from this, LNG is being supplied from countries like Australia and Russia. He said that the government is also working on alternative sources of energy, so that the supply can be normalized.

Worrying situation of LPG

He also admitted that despite government efforts, there is still pressure regarding LPG. Although the situation of online booking has improved and about 93 per cent of consumers are using digital platforms, at many places people still have to stand in long queues for gas. He appealed to consumers to be patient and wait for home delivery instead of going to the distributor.
