India flies amid West Asia tension, 58 flights scheduled even today
The Civil Aviation Ministry informed on Tuesday that despite the ongoing tense situation in West Asia, Indian aviation companies are resuming their services in a phased manner. According to the ministry, on Tuesday, Indian Airlines operated a total of 24 flights to the region. Apart from this, a schedule of 58 flights has been fixed for Wednesday, which includes 30 flights of Indigo and 23 flights of Air India and Air India Express.
What do the officials say?
The ministry clarified that airlines are making deliberate changes to their schedules keeping in mind the current circumstances. Alternative routes are being adopted to avoid airspace declared restricted or unsafe, so that the safety of passengers is not compromised. Officials say the situation is being continuously monitored and further adjustments will be made as necessary.
Due to tensions in West Asia, many international and Indian airlines temporarily canceled or postponed their flights. As of March 3, 1,221 flights of Indian companies and 388 flights of foreign airlines had been canceled due to airspace restrictions.
The ministry said that the government is making special arrangements to help Indian citizens stranded in West Asia. Steps like sending additional flights if needed, coordination with local aviation authorities and coordination with Indian embassies abroad are being taken.
Air India operated special flights
On Tuesday, Air India operated a special flight from Dubai to Delhi, bringing back 149 passengers safely. At the same time, tourists from Telangana, Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh stranded in Bahrain have also appealed for help from the government for their quick return.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also in constant touch with the leaders of West Asian countries. Describing the safety of Indian citizens as the top priority, he has stressed the need to maintain peace and stability in the region. Recently he talked to the leaders of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Also contacted the top leadership of Oman and Kuwait.
