Kolkata. The Indian cricket team has made it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating West Indies by 5 wickets in a thrilling Super Eight match. India became the fourth and last team after South Africa, England and New Zealand to reach the last four. This is the sixth time in the history of the T20 World Cup that India has entered the semi-finals.

In this match played at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, West Indies batted first and scored 195 runs. In reply, India achieved the target of 196 runs with 4 balls remaining. With this, Team India also made the world record of the largest successful run chase in T20 at Eden Gardens. Earlier, the biggest chase recorded here was 158 runs, which was made by India against West Indies.

Samson’s historic innings

When captain Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan were out cheaply, Sanju Samson took the responsibility. Samson played a brilliant inning of 97 runs, which included 12 fours and 4 sixes. By staying at the crease from the beginning till the end, he took the team to the destination of victory. Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma contributed by playing short but useful innings, but the real hero remained Samson.

Shivam Dubey’s two fours turned the match

India needed 17 runs in the last two overs. Hardik Pandya was out on the second ball of the 19th over after scoring 17 runs, which increased the pressure. Meanwhile, as soon as Shivam Dubey came to the crease, he hit two fours in three balls. These two shots changed the course of the match and reduced the pressure on Samson.
