India is buying laser weapons, Pakistan and China are shocked!
New Delhi. India has decided to purchase HELMA-P laser counter-drone system from French company CILAS SA. This state-of-the-art weapon system has been specially designed to intercept and destroy enemy drones. It will be included in the Indian multi-layered air defense network, thereby enhancing the security of border posts and military installations.
What does HELMA-P do?
HELMA-P, i.e. High Energy Laser for Multiple Applications – Power, does not use ammunition. It targets and disables the drone’s batteries, sensors and electronic systems using a high-energy laser beam. This weapon works in conjunction with radar, optical and sound sensors. Its effective distance is approximately 1 to 1.7 kilometers.
Why was there a need?
The number of drones has increased rapidly in border areas and sensitive areas. Instead of expensive missiles, laser systems like HELMA-P provide safe and accurate response at low cost. It requires only electricity and cooling system to run, keeping the expenditure on each target minimal.
What will be the benefit to India?
HELMA-P has already been successfully tested in France and has been part of security measures at major events such as the Paris Olympics. Defense cooperation between India and France will be strengthened. Companies like MBDA and Safran Electronics & Defense are involved in this project, while Indian company Axiscades Technologies Ltd will work on connecting it to the local command-and-control platform.
security improvements
The deployment of HELMA-P will integrate modern technology into India’s security strategy. Along with conventional weapons and jamming, now laser-based directed-energy systems will also become a part of the country’s border security. This will not only strengthen border surveillance but will also improve the defense capability of the country.
