On Monday, India has clearly told its citizens to completely avoid traveling to Iran for the time being. Not only this, the government has also advised Indian citizens already present in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible by whatever means available. While issuing this warning, the Indian Embassy in Tehran (Iran) said that in view of the current situation in the region, they are reiterating their old advisory in more stringent terms.

The Indian Embassy said in its statement, ‘Keeping in mind the recent developments in the region, the Embassy advises all Indian citizens to completely avoid any travel to Iran.’ Along with this, the Embassy added that the Indians who are currently in Iran should ‘leave from there immediately using the available means of transport.’

Why did the situation increase suddenly?

This strict step has been taken when direct military attacks once again started between Israel and Iran in the early hours of Monday. This latest conflict has created a threat of a major war throughout the Middle East.

According to reports, on Monday morning the Israeli army targeted several Iranian targets, including a petrochemical plant located in ‘Mahshahr’ in the south-western region of Iran. In response, Iran also fired missiles at Israeli military bases. Both the countries have confirmed this military action that lasted throughout the night.

Why is this advisory so important?

This new confrontation is also worrying because in April this year, after weeks of tension, there was a ceasefire between the two countries, which has been broken by this attack. Although the Indian government has issued many advisories regarding Iran since the beginning of this year, this time its stance is the strictest. Earlier the government was only advising to ‘exercise caution’, but this time considering the seriousness of the situation, citizens have been asked to ‘leave the country immediately’.
