India-Japan talks on trade, technology and economic security

Tokyo�टोक्यो। Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri co-chaired the first round of India-Japan talks on economic security, including strategic trade and technology, with Masataka Okano, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, here on Wednesday. The talks were announced during the India-Japan 'two plus two' ministerial meeting held in New Delhi on August 20, 2024, which was attended by stakeholder ministries, departments and agencies of both the governments.

The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on related economic security policies, strengthen partnerships to build industrial and technological resilience, and promote cooperation in research and application of key technologies. Both sides underlined the need for closer cooperation to protect economic interests through policy facilitation for trade and academic partnerships between relevant players in India and Japan and to build resilient supply chains and critical infrastructure in identified sectors. Along with this, they also considered ways to facilitate exchange of talent and skill upgradation in areas of common interests. Both sides also agreed to bring concrete results by enhancing overall cooperation in focus areas. During this, Misri also met the Deputy Minister of International Affairs of the Japanese Ministry of Industry and had fruitful discussions on increasing trade and investment between the two countries.
